The Shelford Group has responded to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee’s inquiry into Life Sciences and the Industrial Strategy. UK life sciences is a productive sector that supports productivity across the economy. We support Professor Sir John Bell’s report to the Government.

We believe that the life sciences sector deal can encourage a step-change in the way industry works with NHS clinicians and researchers to access patients and large datasets, develop new technologies and adopt innovations more efficiently and effectively. This is an excellent opportunity to reposition the NHS as a driver of economic growth.

Our inquiry response focuses on the practical ways in which the life science agenda can be taken forward to implementation through the sector deal. We see a renewed opening in the deal to foster the culture of collaboration and entrepreneurialism that is the hallmark of the leading innovation eco-systems around the world.
