Shelford Group trusts top national table for clinical research

The National Institute for Health Research’s Activity League Table has revealed the ten Shelford Group trusts are in the 15 best-performing trusts in the country for clinical research, with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) topping the table.

The National Institute for Health Research’s Activity League Table has revealed the ten Shelford Group trusts are in the 15 best-performing trusts in the country for clinical research, with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) topping the table.

The league table highlights the extent of NHS research taking place in the UK, and the number of participants being recruited into studies. NUTH delivered 514 clinical research studies in 2015/16, an increase of 5.8% on the year before.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust were second in the table with 494 studies, and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust fourth and fifth in the table respectively.
