Sir Andrew Cash takes over as Chair of the Shelford Group

Chief Executive of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sir Andrew Cash, takes over as Chair of the Shelford Group.

Sir Andrew Cash, Chief Executive of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has assumed chairmanship of the Shelford Group, succeeding UCLH Chief Executive Sir Robert Naylor.

Sir Andrew, who is also Deputy Chair of the NHS Confederation, said of his appointment:

“I am delighted to be taking over as Chair of the Shelford Group, and would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to Sir Robert for his excellent leadership over the past year. We have seen significant reform of the NHS in recent times, and with the General Election around the corner, the sector will continue to be in the political spotlight. It is a challenging time for the health system as a whole, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that, through our shared expertise and collective years of experience, the Shelford Group continues to play an active role in shaping the future of our NHS.”

On stepping down as Chair, Sir Robert said:

“The past year has seen the Shelford Group cement its position as a leading voice in the continued development of healthcare policy, a highlight being our March conference, in conjunction with Reform. I am proud to have led the Group during this time and I look forward to continuing to work with my esteemed colleagues under Andrew’s leadership. I am confident that he will take the Group from strength to strength.”

Sir Andrew Cash OBE joined the NHS as a fast track graduate management trainee and has been a Chief Executive for more than twenty years.  He has worked at local, regional and national level and has been seconded to the Department of Health on a number of occasions. He is a visiting Professor in Leadership Development at the Universities of York and Sheffield. Sir Andrew has been Chief Executive of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since its inception in July 2004. He holds a number of positions, including Deputy Chair of the NHS Confederation.
  3. The chairmanship of the Shelford Group changes on an annual basis. The elected Deputy Chair assumes the role of Chair following their year as Deputy.
