Sir Ron Kerr, Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, has assumed chairmanship of the Shelford Group, succeeding Sheffield Teaching Hospitals’ Chief Executive Sir Andrew Cash.

Sir Ron, who formerly chaired the Association of UK University Hospitals, said:

“Sir Andrew Cash has demonstrated superb and inspiring leadership over the past twelve months as Chair of the Shelford Group. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues within the Group and the wider health and care system in furthering an agenda of excellence in patient care, clinical research, and education in our NHS.

“The next five years must be a transformative period for the NHS. It is critical that the NHS works with partners across social care and the life sciences sector to develop an NHS and care system fit for the 21st century. The Shelford Group of Trusts are committed to playing our part to deliver this vision, both as individual Trusts and through our collaborative efforts.”

On stepping down as Chair, Sir Andrew said:

“It has been an enormous privilege to lead the Shelford Group over the past year, during what has been a challenging year for the service, but also one of renewed hope and aspiration. The Shelford Group are keen to be at the forefront of the transformation of the NHS into a more efficient, improved and integrated system which places the quality and standard of patient care at the heart of its operation first and foremost. I have no doubt that under Sir Ron’s leadership, the Group will continue make a valuable contribution to our much loved National Health Service.”
