Eileen Sills takes over as Chair of the Shelford Group Chief Nurses
Eileen Sills, Chief Nurse and Director of Patient Experience at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, will succeed Katherine Fenton as Chair of the Shelford Group Chief Nurses’ Sub-Group in May 2014.
Following a two-year chairmanship of the Sub-Group, Chief Nurse at UCLH Katherine said:
“Over the past two years, the Shelford Group Chief Nurses’ Sub-Group has grown both as a forum for collegiate discussion and an active working group. Nursing practices have rightly been a key policy focus in recent years. Through this time the Shelford Group has sought to share best practice and find innovative ways of boosting standards, most notably through our pioneering project on the strength-based recruitment of Ward Sisters. It has been a privilege to have chaired this fantastic group and I am delighted that Eileen will be taking on the chairmanship going forward.”
Eileen has a wealth of experience both as a practicing nurse and as a healthcare leader. She holds two visiting professorships at King’s College London and London South Bank universities, and is a member of the NHS Employers policy board, a trustee of the Burdett Trust for Nursing and Clinical Director for London’s Strategic Clinical Network for Dementia. She was awarded a CBE in 2003 for services to nursing.
On her appointment, Eileen said:
“I am proud to be taking up the role of Chair of the Shelford Chief Nurses and congratulate Katherine on having guided this group from strength to strength since its inception. I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues to continue to demonstrate best practice and system-leadership during this exciting and dynamic time in nursing.”
